Participation in the project “Implementation and maintenance of information systems and digital applications of e-government and “smart city” of the Municipality of Western Lesvos”
The object of the contract is the full development and productive operation of the electronic government information systems of the Municipality of Western Lesvos, the implementation of digital applications and infrastructure systems and training, information and operational support services for the systems using open software and based on the interoperability of the systems and the harmonization with the standards of accessibility and compliance with the GDPR.
As part of the project, two interconnected smart systems were developed to enhance waste management in the Municipality of Western Lesvos. These systems rely on modern sensors installed in 50 recycling bins distributed across 10 schools in the region. The sensors monitor the fill level of each bin in real time and automatically transmit notifications to a dedicated software application designed for waste management personnel. This software is installed on portable devices used by garbage truck drivers, providing them with accurate information on the geographic location of full bins and enabling the calculation of optimal collection routes. As a result, fuel consumption and unnecessary travel are significantly reduced, lowering the environmental footprint and saving valuable working hours. The information is accessible to both municipal authorities and school administrators, promoting collaboration and operational efficiency. This approach highlights the vital role of technology in sustainable and effective waste management.
