We are pleased to announce that Professor Christos Kalloniatis, Director of the PrivaSI Laboratory at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, participated in the “Perimetros” program on ERT3 to showcase one of our lab’s innovative projects.
This initiative focuses on the development of smart recycling devices and two advanced information systems for notifications, monitoring, and telematics. It was implemented as part of the project titled:
“Implementation and Maintenance of Information Systems and Digital Applications for E-Governance and Smart City Solutions in the Municipality of West Lesvos.”
The project was funded by the Operational Program “North Aegean 2014-2020” and aimed to enhance the efficiency of municipal services. It was executed in collaboration with Crowdpolicy, a company specializing in digital innovation.
Award-Winning Recognition
The success of this initiative was acknowledged at the Greek Green Awards 2025, where the Municipality of West Lesvos received the “Equipment Award” in Recycling, reaffirming the crucial role of technology in sustainable waste management.

How It Works
- Real-Time Monitoring: Sensors installed in 50 recycling bins track waste levels.
- Smart Scheduling: Optimized waste collection saves time and fuel while supporting municipal operations.
- Technological Efficiency: Fleet management software enables seamless communication between smart devices.
- Community Engagement: Recycling bins have been installed in 10 schools, promoting environmental awareness.
- Scalability: The system can be expanded to additional municipalities and organizations.
